What are some the differences between the two types of boards?Freeriding snowboards are a couple Centimeters longer for more effective edge control. Although more and more are choosing shorter boards. More effective edge and sharpened edge equals better edge control carving at high speeds. Also freestyle boards typically have more flex and "pop and snap". These board are sometimes referred to as all mountain boards, all mountain freestyle, and powder snowboards.
Freeriding and Freestyling snowboards are very different styles and require very different equipment. Snowboard companies manufacture boards of both types. Freeriding is defined basically as riding down a mountain and mainly keeping your base on the snow. When your cruising down groomed run, carving in and out of turns down various terrain you're freeriding. Freestyle can be Launching off of kickers, sliding rails, sliding boxes, sliding handrails, launching out of the pipe and others trick target can be defined as freestyle riding. Freestyle boards works for all freestyle situations. Most freestylers choose boards that are twin tipped, meaning that the tip and tail are the same. They also often have centered stances for better side-to-side control, and better control riding switching control. Some freestyle snowbaorders choose a wider waist for increased stability in icy snowboard parks. The general rule of thumb is to choose a shorter board when buying a freestyle board. These board are sometimes referred to as pipe boards and jib boards. Pipe boards are shorter and have a more stiffer flex in the tail in order to get higher launches off the pipe wall.
